Joglo Ayu Tenan

COLLABORATION is the key. In 2007,
Rahayu Dwiastuti, the chair of Crafters
Association Yogyakarta, started weaving her
dream about a space for sharing. Driven by
her passion for craft, she founded Joglo Ayu
Tenan as a hub for crafters to get together
and share their knowledge. Here, foster
housewives and people with disabilities are
empowered. Caring for nature, they select
eco-friendly materials as well as apply
sustainable methods and work principle.

Fabric, metal, and natural stones are crafted
into jewelry, outfits, bags, and other artistic
objects. Hoping to best contribute to society,
Rahayu welcomes everyone to join her
projects. She has worked with travelers,
villagers, academicians from Indonesia
and other countries. Collaboration is set
through trainings, internship programs,
and exhibitions. She always emphasizes
‘experience ’ element for appreciating art.
The treasure of Javanese nature and culture,
such as flora and fauna, philosophical
values, and traditional visual patterns is
translated into beautiful and meaningful
designs. Carrying socio-preneurship spirit,
as an autoimmune Guillaire-Barre Syndrom
survivor, Rahayu is always passionate
about making others empowered. Now
Joglo Ayu Tenan Makerspace is looking
forward for wider collaboration, including
accommodating ideas and making them
coming true in customized products befitting
your imagination.
